I met an Australian. It was one of those meetings that felt like it was meant to happen. It was one of those happenings that you write about in a book…or a blog post because I was so inspired.
I went to work, and I got on a yacht because that’s just one of the perks with the job I’d say. The yacht was staffed with a captain and this Australian guy. After 2 hours of us being on the water, naturally we’d begin speaking. He told me that he’s originally from Australia but he and his girlfriend have been island hopping so now they’re in Jamaica for a few months and they want to go to Dominican Republic as they’re interning with a company so that they could get their scuba diving license. No kids, no home, no car, no ties. All they have to do is pack a bag, and fly. Imagine enjoying a life as such?
Everyone has their own path to follow, outside of the norm. I was absolutely inspired by his story. He was just living day by day, but extremely happy with how things were going for him. It often appears It’s a very exhilarating feeling when you can live your life without boundaries. I often say that the best time of my life so far has been solo travelling around the states. My boyfriend and I can have open conversations about whether I’d prefer if he moved to Jamaica, or if I moved to Canada or somewhere different all together–no limitations.
If you’re young, and without ties then act like it. One of the things that I’m very happy I did was get a job early on so I could have a jumpstart on my savings. My rule of thumb is “you can’t afford it if you can’t buy it twice”. Save. The only thing that could hold me back with what I want to do is finances but thankfully, that’s no longer a problem. Being young is exhilarating. From Jamaica but don’t have a US Visa? You literally don’t need one. The world is beautiful, and the world is not just the states. Go to Belize, Brazil, Ecuador, Trinidad, South Africa–see the world, meet new people, make amazing memories. Want to start small? go to a place within your own country you’ve never seen before. People pay good money to come see what I see everyday living in Jamaica, and there’re hundred other local spots to see. Young is exhilarating.
