There are countless things that can make your year a ‘not so great’ year. Ranging from absolutely hating your job..or your boss, stress from school and other things you have no control over, but luckily there are a few things you do have full control over and that’s investing in yourself. It’s a stressed idea that your mentality is EVERYTHING. How you think dictates how you feel. How you feel and think does affect everything around you.
My boyfriend and I decided to make a shared list of goals we want to achieve this year, 2018. We found it necessary as it’s a way to keep ourselves excited and in anticipation for what’s to come by working towards it. Vorfreude, remember that word. I started this year on a note that’s not typical. Usually I’m looking forward to getting things done, I’m starting new projects, I’m anticipating hitting new milestones and life’s full of new things to enjoy, that wasn’t the case January 1st but I have to make it happen. I’m posting this as a way to keep myself accountable.
My personal goals for 2018:
Saving 75% of Disposable Income
The amount of money you spent on food, outings and shopping last year was unthinkable. Disposable income refers to the remainder of your income after taking care of your responsibilities such as rent, grocery shopping and bills. Saving 75% of my disposable income is completely survivable. I tried this method last year with my previous job, and the result were PHENOMENAL. Once you have a set monetary goal you’re trying to meet, then it becomes easy. The turnover will be beautiful. Set your own survivable percentage, and start saving. I’ll do a separate post on some of my saving tactics to help out!
One thing I WILL say is, stop letting those clearance racks and those Fashionnova 80% offs pull you in–
Maintaining The Skin Care Routine
It’s insane how many times you’ve bought skin care products, started a routine then stopped. It’s a bad habit of yours to crave ‘quick results’ so you start with a booming motivation, after a few weeks…you gradually come to a halt. Months go by and you think to yourself ‘wow, imagine if I actually stayed consistent’. That was me too, but this year is different.
Currently, I have a strict regimen with a few staple products that I’m absolutely excited to share. I can honestly say things are looking amazing so far! Take care of your skin! “Make up can’t conceal texture”, is what I tell myself.
Drink More Water
Drinking water always felt like a trying task for me. It had this lingering taste that I couldn’t quite shake, so I invested in a few key things to help me:
-A cute water bottle. Refill with water, drink 5 bottle fulls throughout the day. Increase as it gets easier.
-FIJI Water tastes beautifully pure and SMOOTH. My absolute favorite, pricy but worth it.
-Instead of tap water or glass fulls, buy packs of mini water bottles. Mentally, it feels less of a task when I could gulp a bottle down, and be done.
Learning Another Language
A younger me would’ve scoffed at the thought of this, but after working at a diner filled with Dominicans and Puerto Ricans spitting Spanish everyday. I gradually got more into it, and realized how much I actually loved it especially when the pressure of good grades weren’t an issue. DUOLINGO is an amazing app I’ve gotten into. It allows for little quizzes, Spanish chatrooms, daily reminders and fun games. I love it. They have a ton of languages to choose from so I decided to start with what I know, and that’s Spanish.
Being Consistent in Everything
Inconsistency is a major factor resulting in failures, whether it’s in your relationships, the motivation to achieve at work,in school or going to the gym. So many people become complacent and inconsistent. This year I want it to become a habit that whatever I start, I’m consistent at it, as a preparation for what life has to offer. Particular goals are being absolutely consistent with uploading blog posts weekly, consistency in my relationship, consistent with my goals and consistency in trying to improve myself.
Before I end this blog post, I want to share this word I learned a few years back ; VORFREUDE
Living in the moment is beautiful but working towards something and achieving it is absolutely fulfilling.
